Trent Reznor's brand of angst was mutated on Nine Inch Nails' second full-length record; gone were the easy poppy melodies that made Pretty Hate Machine such an immediate hit. This time around, Reznor delved deeper into his black soul, releasing a powerful fusion of industrial rhythms, deep lyrics and complex melodies.
